Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

O.K. Here's the deal.

Although it appears we have interest by 2 of the current officers in continuing the club, what I would like to know is this: Does anyone really want to see the club continue?

Please post up what you think! Is it a worthwhile expenditure of your time and money? Do you or have you had fun as a club member? Did we do anything special you enjoyed? Do we suck and you hate us? Anything at all, let us know your thoughts now.

I'm not looking for any commitment by anyone at this point, I just want to gauge if there is enough interest to continue this thing. I mean, this is supposed to fun right? We're out riding amazing bikes, the roads are curvy and the weather's fine (usually). How is it we end up in this place all the time?

So post up! Talk to your friends and have them post up! Spread the word. This time your opinion really matters! Because personally I enjoy riding with you guys and I hope the club matters enough to you to see it continue. If not, so be it.

That's it for now. Let see where we're at in week or so and then we'll talk about setting up a meeting to resolve who or if anyone is going to become officers.

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

I can't sleep, so I might as well throw in my dos pennies. Short version: I dig riding with others. I am unmotivated and, if it's possible, bored riding by myself. I am fully content to not be my own person when it comes to sharing an adventure.

Everything else just complicates. Only issue beyond that is needing more people to step up and lead a ride. I would like to start my rides with less mantrums and b.s. excuses to avoid leading.

If you want the long version, you will beg. And feed me beer.

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

I hope the club continues to exist, but the structure and expectations should probably change.  This is my perfect incarnation of the CVSC.

Sundays, we ride.
Occasionally, we plan longer rides where, we ride.  Said ride may possibly involve a stay in a hotel room and consumption of a plethora of beers and then, we ride.  (after sleeping it off, of course).

There would be no membership fees, no club-sponsored events; just a bunch of people who enjoy riding motorcycles together.  The other crap just gets in the way of what we'd rather be doing.

My poor opinion (yawn)...keep the forum so we can keep in touch with all of the great people this club has brought together.  We all seem to be far to busy (and old) to keep this club going the way it should. We are officially "the old guys" and the younger crowd wants nothing to do with us...and let's face it...we're too fast and talented for them anyway! (ego sarcasm) We can keep the club name and website as well as presence in case we need to resurrect it for a "trackday discount"or overnighter, etc. I agree all the dues, decisions, and all around bullshit drama/responsibilities have taken the fun away. I paid my dues last year...never went on one ride...never saw one bit of benefit.....and don't care. Let's take what's left of the money...have one killer overnighter and drain that account while having the best fucking time EVER! After that...let's just fucking ride and occasionally get together for some drinky. Remember kids...responsibility=NO. FUN. Prissel won't show up anyway wink

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

My turn as someone seeing it from mostly a Sunday ride aspect...

When I moved here about 4 yrs ago, I was happy to pay the club fee to join up.  Met some great people at the pizza party in I think April.  Went on rides and had a fun year.  Worth the cash.

Paid the next year and saw $10 back when I went to a track day.  Nice.  But didn't have that great pizza party.  Oh well.  I decided not to pay my dues the next year, but still joined up for rides and nobody bitched at me.

So, I would like to agree with Tommy and Champ.  We get together to ride and enjoy each other's company.  It can still be a "club" without having to pay to be a part.  And if we can benefit from the "club" ie: trackdays, hotel discounts, etc..., then how everyone chips in financially can be discussed at that time.

I do like the idea of an overnight ride.  Even though my family does come first, I'm sure I can be released for a weekend to join up.

I also paid my dues last year and did not reap any of the benefits besides hanging out with good friends and having fun conversations, I agree with Tommy on this one. It seems like the club has been slightly heading in this direction the past couple years anyway.  Take whats left of the money and have fun with it.

and btw Tommy... :kicknuts:

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

I guess I will throw my .02 in. I have really enjoyed being a part of the club for the last two years and yes I never really received any benefits other then meeting and riding with all you fine folks I still feel that it was money well spent and I suppose either way you guys will probably still make me pay just to hang out with you. smile

Seriously I don't think this club is going to go any further then a bunch of good people riding together on Sunday unless people speak up and say what they want to do. If this club falls apart we have no one to blame but ourselves. Then again I don't know how many people have an interest in it at all? There are several people on this forum and I think they need to speak up now! I for one have shifted a lot of my attention to the track and I would love to do a track day with everyone but I don't really see the interest from others. I still will show up for the rides here and there as I have for the last two years if we are still going to have them but if that's all its going to be then I'm with champ and practicecrasher. Either way I would be very interested in meeting with everyone and see what ideas people have for turning this club around otherwise I say we at least go out with a bang.

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

I've been on a few rides with a select few of you and I always enjoyed the rides. Well, except for the time I crashed. And even then, at least HindTit told me how funny it looked when I came walking out of a sheet of dust like I was some bad ass in a movie walking out of a smoke cloud or something. lol Still makes me laugh till this day.

I've had convos with mileage guy about joining, but then we both came to the conclusion that, it wouldn't make much sense since I work weekends and you guys always ride on the weekend. So how would me being a member not only benefit me, but benefit you guys as well? It wouldn't make much sense.

The reality is is that everyone has a life outside of motorcycles and riding, which in most cases, those parts of their lives are MORE important than motorcycles and riding.

It's no ones fault. It's just the way it works. If everyone has conflicting schedules, then how would it ever work? You can't please everyone.

P.S BTW I saw a few of you on Clairemont yesterday evening, I think most of you waved except for Hind. What a Bitch. lol J/K

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

Ok folks,
Here's the scoop. This club has been around for over 20 years(maybe even 30). It is not going to end any time soon either. This last year was tough due to bad economy, lack of dealer participation and a few minor factors. In the last 2 years we have been able to build the club treasury back up to where it was 4 years ago. Whoever takes the reigns for the next 2 years will have an outstanding base to start with. The economy is turning around and we have some interest from dealers again as far as sponsoring our events. I would like to see membership dues back down to $20 as some enticement for new blood. Whats 5 dollars? Not much to some of us but alot easyer for others to just whip out a 20 spot and call it good. Anyway, I will not be running for any officer position this time around as I'll be way to busy this year but you can count on my membership even if I can only make 1 or 2 rides again this summer.

I wan't everyone to know how proud I am and grateful to be part of such a great group of folks. I'm sure you will be seeing the club returning to a more familiar schedule very soon.

Let's start looking toward the future.
-Turd

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

Going to just throw this out for information to you all.

The way this used to work may be a good option going forward for now.  Back in the day there was one big ride in May to start the year off, it was called the Laguna ride.  One big ride like 10 to 15 bucks a head and 5-10 for a passenger(this was also used to cover your dues for the year).  Went on a 100-200 mile ride and back to Eau Claire for pizza.  The local dealers did help out with some prizes and the money from the ride payed the pizza bill.  The prizes were given out on the basis one rider one ticket nice and easy.  Anything that was left over was saved for another event.  Usually the other event was an overnight ride that the club would help pay for (good time right Tom), the only problem with that ride was that the only people that got in on it were those in the inner circle.

So going forward maybe with good funds the club might look to buy a few prizes and talk to the dealers to get some more maybe, and have a great ride and just let the balance ride year to year with some years being better than others and just enjoy the company for now.

This big ride has gotten to be a lot of work for some in the past and it used to be very low key spread the word and pray for good weather.

The website is great for everyone to stay in touch and keep the rides going thats what everyone loves to do.

Just ideas guys hope to see all of you at some point this season.

I'm pretty sure something was playing in my head at that moment ala the opening chords of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead Or Alive." **EDIT** No, I am wrong. It's more like "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" by Caged Elephant.

You were probably in flip-flops, you squid. My kung-fu grip won't release for just anyone. Actually, are you sure it was me? I haven't been riding with anyone lately...I think that's a commentary on me, but whatever. I saw someone in the last day or so headed westbound on Clairemont who gave me a hard stare, but I was trying, at that moment, to not get killed and could only hazard a quick glance in said rider's direction. Matt, you know that if my Alzheimer's wasn't kicking into overdrive I would give you the Goldwing Wave. It's our thing now. So make sure I know it's you next time. smile BTW, gentlemen, I have spotted a white Buell Fireboltish thing with a decidedly female form atop it. Might wanna keep your eyes open. Or it was a really femmy guy. In that case, keep your eyes open. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't a sheep. Sorry Fish.

Back to the business at hand. I'm all for the forum as a jumping-off point for planning rides at any time and for any reason (though a suggestion I've heard is archiving the website and purging the drama from the forum...if the idea is to welcome noobs, we're doing a totally shitty job via forum). I'm all for us eliminating whatever issues are inclined to cause loss of joy of riding with us (though you must realize if we have officers and you become one, you better like doing it or it will ruin you and have an effect on the rest of us). However, there are some facts that I think we must face here. We're not a bunch of restricted teenagers who have nothing better to do than hang out at the local McD's (except you, E). We're all adults (even Junior) who have schedules, priorities, jobs, etc. Planning anything more than a few hours ride is going to only involve a few people at best. It's all a matter of priorities. As it happens, I have no priorities other than make a wage, and ride a motorcycle. That makes the majority of you a pain in the ass as far as the planning thing, but I mean that in the best way...sort of. As I see it, track days and weekend trips are an awesome idea and I can comfortably say I would jump on the opportunity if I thought I was at all welcome. This isn't a pity ploy. I know how dudes are about chicks hanging out with them when they're doing "guy" stuff and I know how I can be...annoying yet slow at best. But to think we can plan something and have a grand turnout is somewhat delusional. Laguna may be an exception, but that's because we have to include alcohol and food, beg for freebies and spend on advertising just to get a turnout. And what does that get us? A club-wide event is pipe dreamy...only because I have witnessed firsthand that grand plans are made, but there's either never a commitment to follow-through or there's flaking out at the last minute.

Having said all that b.s., no membership, no officers, just some commitment to show up for a regular ride as often as you can, and hey, how about a weeknight ride too? Meet at Shanghai on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday night at 5. 5:30. 6:00. Whatever. A couple hour ride and some chow after. What you gentlemen seem to miss (and I'll tell you being a recent transplant from Flatlandia) is that you are within a mere FIVE MINUTES of twisty heaven and it doesn't take much to get off on a ride, even if it's not an impressive mileage count. I used to completely dig the post-work-till-sundown rides with my Yoda (the feeling might not be mutual, having to wait up for Kid Sister, but this is me we're talking about now. heh).

My only real sticking point: leading. The majority of you were born and raised in this here Valley. How you cannot be familiar with any areas outside of our burg's limits is amazing to me. So here's your cure. Next time you're on the toidy, park it with a detailed map and eyeball some potential routes. I have lead rides. The Hind fucking Tit and five year resident of Wisconsin. Not a single one of you have an excuse to not lead. So look over a god-damn map. You can accomplish so much with the time you spend on the shitter. I mean, after all, look how much I've posted while I was on mine? My damn feet are dead to me now.

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

I plan on riding with the club for a long time.. I've learned a great deal and improved my skills over time and actually learned good riding habits.  Otherwise i would probably be one of those squids you see riding to class.  Its been because of your positive influence with riding safely and promoting gear that i am not one of those guys.  I really never noticed it until i left and im just starting to see the other riders that give us a bad rep..

The purpose of the club and the sunday rides are a must, but its hard to get younger riders with us mostly because we don't like to wake up early and we drink on sat night.. Its partly that and i only know a few of my friends that own sportbikes and then only have of them that i would actually want to ride with us

Re: Officer Election--POSTPONED!!!

Sorry I haven't been on the forum lately for a variety of reasons...

Anyway, thanks for the comments everyone. A lot of good thoughts! And vast majority of them are even positive. What the fuck has happened to you people?

It seems to me what we should do now is schedule a meeting and hash some of this shit out.

I think it's important we get a good turnout at this meeting, so post up your preference of day and time, and we'll work something out from there.

Champ's suggestion of Rider's Edge for a location seems good so we'll probably go with that unless someone has a better idea.

In meantime, I think we should resume the regular Sunday rides leaving Shanghai Bistro's parking lot at 10:30am. So spread the word!

Unfortunately I'll be out of town this Sunday, but I will around on May 16 and 23 so I'll see you then.

You're all quite the indecisive bunch, aren't you?

Just set a time and date and that's how it's gunna be, people will show up or not, their call.

Or, you could have it after a Sunday ride, that way you know people are out and about.

Side note: Kawi dealer offered me an off the floor 2009 6R with 0 miles for $8k. Hrm.
