During the winter alot of the guys i know with bikes hibernate lol but as soon as the snow melts and the weather is picks up, it seems like everyone starts popping up outta the woodwork to go rideing. Mileageguy, I think that if some of us went around to several places in the spring with the bikes and handed out flyers and cards to people at certain establishments we would get alot of people interested. I would like to et a little group of people together with their bikes and some gear (maybe not all of it) and go to the bars sober on a busy night and just start talking to people. I think if people in public places saw a little group of us hanging out and telling people about the club and the rides (and the parties) would really be a good way of realing in members. Really, we could go to any place where people are gathering and having fun and find some people that could be intersted. I know if we had a kick off event that alot of people knew about ahead of time, we could get a good amount of riders to show up. I think people just need to see the club as a fun thing and not something thats kinda hidden from the general population. If people see us having fun, and planing fun things...well, they will wanna have fun too. Im kinda tired so i might not be finding all the thoughts going thru my head, but i think you get the idea.

all i have is a full suit.  maybe i won't come with.  I hear I am pretty intimidating anyways though.

I would agree, I think it is more your finesse in bowling world though.  We still need to see how many drinks we can swindle out of some bartenders again.

You bring up planning fun things...maybe a bbq or something like that a couple times a summer, or a bonfire at Turds, give members a deal on the food, and non members can pay full price.  There are plenty of places in EC to have things like this too!  RiverView, Mt Simon, one of our houses...

You gonna ride the cruiser shirtless and E can hold onto your mitties?

Clearly, we all need to get drunk and discuss this further Sat. night in Menomonie.  Invite all your little friends that ride...tell 'em to leave the swingin dicks at home and come open minded and ready to meet the coolest fuckin people they will ever get to know...hell, I might even go on Sat.  I could definitely meet some "cool" people. smile

Re: What is the club planing on doin to recruit young members?

Helmets:  I started from biggest squid and 22 years later have morphed into a touch less squidly.  I wear my helmet almost all the time...sometimes there is just that feeling!  Jray (and this isn't a personal attack, just my crappy wisdom),  I've seen a lot of accidents and held my best friend's perfectly done hair in place while the paramedics were in route...ruined a damn pair of gloves too (blood doesn't come out).  I've seen this shit enough times that it starts to take the fun out of pushing your limits...and god dammit...I have a hard time not thinking about the shit that can happen to me now that I'm getting old and actually thinking about repercussions of the dumb ass shit I have and will do. Fast forward yourself 10 years and look back at the time you cracked off a 3 gear wheelie; jeans, t-shirt, no helmet....nevermind the very cute girl on the back in shorts and cute little shirt calmly whispering in your ear at 120, "Are you gonna put this down soon?".  Fuckin cool when I was 22 and doing it.  Now, surprised she didn't get a cab home.  Fuck me...can you imagine what would have happened to her? (p.s. wheelie was her idea)

Biggest reason we want helmets on the ride...we don't want the sport ruined for us early seeing nasty shit.

Sorry for the rant.  I will continue to take the occasional Sat. morning ride down Water St. to wash the bike for nothing more than nostalgia...but feeling completely neked the whole time!
Sorry for the rant.

Re: What is the club planing on doin to recruit young members?

Just spent a day and a half reading all the posts in this thread. Some really good stuff here!

Maybe we could try a couple Saturday rides early in the season this year? See if we get any new riders to participate. Easy thing to try.

The early season BBQ/party seems like a good idea too. More work and organization, but it could be a good way to expose new riders to the club. (expose: as in familiarize, not as in Turd/Beer Pong/Laguna Ride. Although that was certainly memorable and totally representative of a club event).

Anyway, I hope we can act on some of the ideas in this thread and attract a few more members this year.

I for one am tired of winter already and find myself spending shameful amounts of time fantasizing about riding.  (Yeah I know, it should be boobs, but what can I say, I'm OLD!) Wish it were April so we could be out ripping through all those wonderful sand and salt covered corners again. Can't have everything I guess.
