Re: Tire Mileage

the higher the cold pressure, the less heat your tires will build as you ride.  cold weather, low cold pressure.  hot weather, high cold pressure.  it's all relative.

Re: Tire Mileage

FYI... I ordered 3 tires again today. Had to make some decisions  when it came to  getting a new rear for the Speed Triple..... The Road 2  had come down in price since i bought the last one. about fifteen dollars. I am still  running the First road 2 and will until I see cords as the champ did. Not sure on total miles I will get as of yet, but now im well over 4000. I did the math and approximately .005 cents per mile cheaper to run this tire  according to my  funny math so far. I will let you know what the final mileage  is  when changed.

Re: Tire Mileage

I couldn't wait for the cords to show, had opportunity to have tire put on, I did go with the same Power Road 2. Not going to baby it , just trying different air pressures. Had over 4400 miles on the last one.

Re: Tire Mileage

For what it's worth, given the hind titness...

Beginning evidence of cord exposure down the center of my rear Diablo Strada, so I'm changing it out tomorrow. I don't keep a log of exact miles...figure somewhere between 5000-6000 miles and my tire pressures have been all over the place this season. It has one track day on it (highest speed maybe just above 100 mph) and I've ridden my bike the 40 minute round trip on the bypass to work and back nearly every day this season. Include nearly every club ride and a few solo or duo rides.

My maintenance schedule and tire pressure/chain/oil status is shown as follows...

Male in my life #1: "When's the last time you changed your oil?"
Me: "Dunno. Probably time."

Male in my life #2: "Chain looks a little loose...and bindy."
Me: "Really? Guess I better clean and tighten it."

Me: "What's your tire pressures?"
Male in my life #1: "34, 32."
Me: "Okay."

Me: "What's your tire pressures?"
Male in my life #3 (aka Runs With Pine Trees): "35, 41."
Me: "Okay."

Yesterday....
Runs With Pine Trees: "Ooo, look who's starting to show cords!"
Me (aka Two Dogs Fucking): "Wow. Must be all those burnouts I've been doing." /end sarcasm
Runs With Pine Trees (after close examination): "Eh, you've got miles left to go on that tire."
Me: "What, till I SLIDE?"
Runs With Pine Trees: (smirks and drives away...in a car)

This was my very first set of tires from start to finish. The originals, when I bought the bike, were squared-off Battle Axes with 2K or so already on them...so anything else was an upgrade. I've had no issue with these tires and they've been the best metric for gaging my overall improvement in riding. So, on to the next rear Strada! Front will probably make it for some time...I can't see the top of Lincoln's head yet.

*** EDIT *** I changed my mind...it's "Dances With Pine Trees."

Re: Tire Mileage

Well the rear strada has seen better days.:( The cords are begining to show I will get til the end of the week thats about it so maybe 200 more miles. I'm currently a little over 5500 and I have kept my psi at 32 to 34 cold depending on temp. Thats probably a little low but I've been keeping so my hot temp is about 6psi more then cold which from what I've read should offer the best traction and since I'm noob I figured I could use all the help I can get.

Anyways I will be running the strada in the rear again but once this front is done I will be replacing that with something a little stickier. The front is still in great condition but I've been having it slide way to much lately for my comfort level.

Re: Tire Mileage

Looks like the front is right around 9000 miles and it's time to swap. Will probably eke out a few more miles on this tire...at least until the sag party...if there's gonna be tire-changin' a-goin' on, that is.

Another Diablo Strada for me.

Current rear Strada is at 3800 and it looks like I have much riding to go before cords show.

Re: Tire Mileage

Rear Strada smoked: 7300 miles. Last week I made arrangements to have the new one put on tomorrow. How's that for timing?

**Kept the tire pressure at 41, per extremely knowledgeable advice.**

Re: Tire Mileage

Not sure if this is posted in the right thread, but anyone got tire pressures for Michelin Power Race (medium)?  I was sliding around a little too much on Sunday and want a little more traction, but also don't want to really fry the tires.

Re: Tire Mileage

they probably aren't getting up to temp on the street.  i would say that is accounting for some slippage. idea what to run them at though.

Re: Tire Mileage

Those are track tires and the rear is meant to be run at 22 if I remember correctly, so try something North of that for extra mileage.

Re: Tire Mileage

For your reference, when your cords first start to show through? You've got about 1/4" (likely less) of material between you and your asshole slamming shut when the tire blows.

I'm just sayin.

Wow...that much? Is there a second set of cords as a "Final warning"?

Yeah, right below the heat cracks that show up in your front tire... big_smile

I was told, at least in the Stradas, that there is rubber-cord-rubber-cord and then, mister, game over.
