Visiting California

Springtime is here, and it's time to bring up visiting California again!

I'll be living up here in Sonoma County for about one more year before I attempt to move down to San Francisco. There may not be much to do up here, but there are plenty of incredible roads to ride.

We're moving in about a month to a new apartment complex, so we'll have a decent amount of room for visitors. The complex also has all the standard amenities - swimming pool, hot tub, plenty of guest parking, and proximity to decent places to eat.

I have no idea how many roads we'd ride or where. Flying solo last year I managed to put about 8,000 miles on - and I didn't ride anywhere long distance. I should be able to take off a good amount of time while people visit to show you around a lot of the roads, and I've got some pre-determined routes planned out for when I get out riding with people. A few of them we'll ride more than once - I figure I'll lead you all through it to get a feel, then we'll just turn around and I'll let you guys blast through at your usual pace that I don't really feel like doing. tongue

It's about a 30 hour drive out here, give or take, and a 4 hour flight. Anyone who visits, it's your call whether you 2 wheel your way out here, or trailer up and travel as a group.

Those that would like to fly out and rent a bike, this place has the best deals:

Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and visit. Feel free to even if you don't feel like going out riding, I'll show you around the Bay Area. And if you need more motivation to come out, all the photos that I took riding are here: http://www.thezipper.org/calride/

Re: Visiting California

Spring is just about on here now - 30s to 40s at night, mid to high 60s during the day. March is still typically a bit rainy, but come April to mid-April, the rain ends and it will be sunny and clear until December. So I'd say April 15th and later you're guaranteed perfect riding weather. Although honestly, the forecast isn't looking all that bad for the rest of April!

Re: Visiting California

Most days in late April/May are $139 round trip from Minneapolis right now.

AMA Superbike is May 15,16,17 out here at Infineon, which is about a 30 minute drive from my apartment - anyone want to come out? Tickets are $35 for each weekend day.

May 15 - May 19 would be the best dates, although 15-20 are available as well. Late night flights...that's why they're so cheap.

Come out, have a burrito, and check out the race. I doubt these flight prices will last long!

Re: Visiting California

$254 round trip, May 14th - May 18th or 19th! Come enjoy some sunshine, some wine, and the AMA race! You won't regret it.

Can't have visitors the weekend of May 23, we'll be in New York.

Rest of the summer is up for grabs. I'm looking at you, mileageguy. I expect you to stop by this year during your travels.

hah. if you're bored we can get together for a drink, we're going to a friend's birthday party on saturday, statue of liberty on sunday, and if they're taping on memorial day (probably not), going to The Daily Show on Monday. Get my cell # off of my Facebook account just in case.
