One Piece and a Biscuit

I can just imagine what Champ's corner would look like in the real world...dust bunnies the size of small chickens, cobwebs that entangle toddlers, an empty chair, porn and Roadracing World mags...

The crux --> Please tell me I don't have to spend upwards of 2K for a one-piece suit if all that's in my future is the occasional track day or club ride. Then please tell me, in your honest-yet-poor opinion (because I do value it, regardless) what to buy and where to go, if you have any suggestions. Keep in mind, I have pumps and bumps. big_smile

I know this is champs corner and all but if you want, you can try on one of my old suits. They might fit. They might smell. It's worth a shot.

I love the smell of strontium-90 in the morning. Smells like...*brief lifespan

Re: One Piece and a Biscuit

you definitely don't have to spend 2k for a 1pc.  i got mine for wayyyyy less than that.  check out sportbiketrackgear.com.  also newenough.com.  if you know your size, skim ebay.  the suits that are 2k+ are sweet, but unless you are racing, def. not worth buying, imo.

oh wait this is champs corner.   disregard everything i said.

Re: One Piece and a Biscuit

I should clarify for any future posts, that I'm not trying to cheap my way out. I want something good that'll save my skin and I'll pay the bucks for quality. Was just thinking Astars "racing" suits were not of necessity for my level of riding.

Thanks for the sites, Scout. Any brands/skins anyone firmly believes in?

Turd, I will actually take you up on this, if you PROMISE me I won't be trying on the one(s) you've shat in. Monkey butt? Fine. Schweaty balls? No problem. No poo. NO POO.

Anybody ever tried to get any of their suits tailored? I suppose it sounds less-than-manly (not to me, of course), but if I find one that fits the big parts, I'd like to take in the skinny parts...like the cankles. I'd imagine even leather is flappy in a 30-mph wind, you know...balls out and such. big_smile

Can I answer now you sonsabitches?

I'd check out the Dennis Kirk Outlet Store.  Since you already have a jacket, you might consider looking just for pants and then having a zipper sewn into the jacket if it doesn't already have one.

Happy hunting.

Re: One Piece and a Biscuit

Old post, yes, but I've worn my new suit many times now since purchase and I feel I can finally give it a worthy review.

The A** two-piece I ordered didn't fit. Desperate (had a track day coming up at the time...ended up getting two separate pieces sewn together temporarily), I sifted through the internet looking for custom-fit leathers. Of course, Vanson was the first to pop up, however, I was turned off by the...well, the brand name. And, though I didn't look far enough into a Vanson custom-fit suit, one would assume the price would not be reasonable.

I found a place out in CA called Livid Leather (http://lividleather.com/motorcycle-suit … ckets.html). I searched the Better Business Bureau site and a couple of other places to learn more about their company. I emailed back and forth with one gentleman at Livid who answered my questions clearly and promptly. I emailed him my entire neck-to-ankle measurements that I had done at Fastitch (thank you, Letha). I got to pick out the style of suit from their site, and the colors. I was told it would be made out of buffalo leather and would take 2-3 weeks.

Pros:
Total cost: $480
FREE SHIPPING
FREE CUSTOM FITTING
Thick leather
Sturdy seams
Includes: knee pucks w/velcro, shoulder, elbow, knee armor. Also foam padding on hips and back.
Zips at ankles, snaps/zippers at wrist, neck-to-crotch front zipper w/velcro tab below neck.
Fits glove-like all over except gut and back of knees (My guess is because I had the measurements taken standing up instead of actually on my bike...not sure if that would've made a lot of difference).
The arms and legs do have a slight angle to them when the suit is hung up.

Cons:
No perforations (though, it was only hot in the suit when it was hot outside...otherwise, up here in the mild summer weather, it's perfect...but then I'm not much of a sweater). I do wear hot or cold Nike Underarmor most of the time. Because it's a snug, tight fit, I'd never be able to get out if I sweat at all. It is lined, but that just sticks to you...it's not glued/sewn on to the leather for the most part.
No stretch panels (except a couple of strips down the calves).
Took 5 weeks instead of 2-3.
Too much leather behind the knee and in the gut (again, might be my fault).
You can return it only once for alterations (I really didn't think the knees/gut issue was worth the hassle...while the company is based out of California, the suit was made in Pakistan and traveled to Dubai before shipping out to the U.S.), but it is non-returnable, which is completely agreeable to me. This is why I made sure I measured every square inch from neck to ankle.

I haven't crashed while wearing the suit (and I won't, damn it all), so I couldn't tell you if it holds together on impact. Considering how uncomfortable it was to wear the first few rides, my guess is that's some thick leather. I think the seams are all double-stitched...will have to double-check.

Livid Leather asks for feedback on their work several times...I've held off until I broke the suit in. Will point out that perforations and stretch panels added in will go a long way to getting more riding customers.

I risked throwing $500 bucks out the window on a sketchy-sounding unknown company, but I believe it worked in my favor. I'm pretty certain it doesn't make me any easier on the eyes, but it fits great and I'll be darned if it didn't make me faster (but I still think it was mileageguy's route). So, if you're having a tough time finding a suit that fits you like you want it to, Livid Leather might be worth your money. I'm just typin'.

Re: One Piece and a Biscuit

sounds like a reasonable deal to me.

I had a custom suit made by SYED in Florida. Custom design, perfed, double cowhide in lots of places, extra padding in the A$$ area, triple stitched, flex panels, made to stand up to crashing repeatedly. Finally got to test it at RA last summer, can hardly tell it hit the deck, and it performed flawlessly.

Mine was about 1200 plus another 90 for on alteration.
