2007 Cbr600rr

So...

I just went and test rode the above mentioned bike.

First, a history lesson.

My first bike at 16 years old: 1982 Honda Night Hawk 450 air/oil cooled vertical twin. Light fun, good first bike. 9 year bike hiatus. 1998 Buell M2 Cyclone. Meh. 2002 FZ1. After the Buell, this thing was heaven!!

Now, this is the first modern 600cc inline four I have ever been on. To say I was impressed, would be an understatement. First gear would loft the front WAY easier than the FZ1. A firm shift into second lightened the front again. I wasn't even on it hard, I was test driving it after all.  smile  Bear in mind, that I am no "lightweight" at 205# and this thing was BONE STOCK.

Power output aside, it felt like nothing I have ever ridden. On. Rails.

This thing is a salvage bike with 1,700 miles. $6500. It appears to have been looped, there are scuffs on the taillight, and down the left side body panels.

Talk me out of it. (or into it)

I wanna ride a 675, but a certain someone at Sport Rider never called me back. I think I would love the 675, based on what the CBR felt like.

I know, I know. I really looked it over closely though. All the damage is cosmetic. All of it.

I let go of the bars at 65 mph and they were steady all the way down to about 40, with a very tiny wiggle that may have been road surface induced.

If it's resale/trade that factors into your .02, I can understand. I'd be wary too. If I planned to own it short term.

You have to consider this (realistically) Will I be nice to it? Probably not. Will I cause it to eventually have a salvage title? Likely. I plan to do track days on it  smile  I don't really care about the cosmetic condition of any SS/RR I buy, as long as it is structurally sound.  Despite the rash, I see this as a 3K discount on nicely broken in 07. 1,700 miles.

I never just cruise, hoping to be seen by chicks on my cool sport bike. I just wanna flog it in the twisties/track.

Still think its too much?  Don't be afraid to say so, after all, I am asking for a reason. I think it may be a tad high too. Problem is, I am rather smitten after riding it!

see if you can have a dealer give it a once over.  find why it was salvaged(usually frame, swingarm).  if those check out, then maybe consider it as your new track whore.  somebody correct me if i am wrong.

hope this helps

Re: 2007 Cbr600rr

Looks like the seller has intraneck access and looked up the "low retail" value on nada.com.  My point is that the price is probably too high.  Can you register the bike for road use with a salvage title?  If you can and you can get some assurance from a neutral third party that the bike isn't twisted and you can get the seller to drop the price some, I say go for it.  Lotsa ifs there for ya.

It was salvage due to a nick in the upper swing arm brace. Not the swing arm itself, but the welded on brace. They guy that has the bike, works at a body shop and has already lightly sanded the spot that was scratched/nicked and repainted it satin black.  You can still see the nick ( it wasn't filled with weld, thank god) but you have to get right down there. I would bet that most here would shrug at that nick and never give it a second thought safety wise.

I should mention, that since this was the only middle weight RR I have ridden, I plan to ride more bikes this week and see if they dislodge this one from the brain. It may be more that I am in love with the quick handling and power to weight ratio of this class of bike, not the CBR itself. Remember, my most recent ride weighed in at 520# wet.

I want to ride the 675 and I think Zacho's had a few used R6's. They had an 06 GSX-R 750, but I think it is gone already. I know a few test rides will clear my head!

Riding that CBR was like discovering masturbation all over again!!   :fap:

Re: 2007 Cbr600rr

way too much for a piece of crap.
who would pay $9500 for a new one of those anyway???

even if it was just cosmetic you dont know if the motor was running while laying on its side or flopping in the air getting starved for oil.

you can buy a 06 zx6 racebike with lots of goodies for $5900.00 but thats a track only bike.

get a new 675 and spend the extra money you saved on suspension.

Yes, it can be inspected and registered, but will always carry the 'salvage' notation on the title.

Lotsa if's indeed.

I need to sleep on this and ride other bikes. Soon.

I know I am getting good advice, just having trouble accepting it because I haven't ridden anything comparable yet.

A forum member here may be selling his 675. I may have to do that. I need to ride one.

Re: 2007 Cbr600rr

My GSXR looked ok after a crash but my forks were bent so plan on that for a cost for piece of mind.  If it has the salvage title like mine and has not been inspected yet to be legal for road use make him do that there is about another $100 cost to that and if they are picky you will have to buy more parts to get it right.  $8500 will get you a new one and $7299 will get you a new GSXR 600.  Now is the time to buy but not easy to decide.

Re: 2007 Cbr600rr

$5,000 tops for a salvage title '07.  Knowing the guy works at a body shop...scares me.  However...obviously if he did good enough work to hide anything else...you wouldn't still be able to see the knick in the brace.  (sorry bodywork guy)
Also, look the rims over very well...slid into curb?  And the steering stops on the head for cracks...Mine were cracked and you would have never known it looking at the rest of the frame.
You can take My '06 R6 for a short spin if it helps but practice shifting backwards.  1 up 5 down...not facing backwards!

Re: 2007 Cbr600rr

Skrawy, I wouldn't mind a "project", but right now I am bikeless (unless you count my DR350S). This is driving me even more nuts than I thought it would.

I'll bite anyways. You know of something? If it can't be put on the road in SHORT order, I think I'd pass.

Text bears no emotion, so have no idea of the level of sarcasm in your post regarding the CBR600RR. Can you expand on your criticism? I thought it was a pretty sweet ride, you seem to disagree? Anything specific?

I am pretty sure these guys had NO idea what I was looking at, but I was ALL over the front of that bike. I looked at the lower triple clamp and steering stem area as carefully as I could. The steering stops were perfect as was the front of the stem. I couldn't see as well as I would have liked, but I also felt the front of the stem for any damage to the stop.

Madscout, PracticeCrasher, you guys may have to live up to those offers. I can probably test a used R6 at Zacho, but the 636 would be sweet to try out.  Broadening my horizons is my TOP priority right now...

I am sure you guys find it odd that I am so impressed with these bikes.  After all, you've been riding them a while, maybe even years. Last night was my first time out on middle weight.  ( I rode a few Honda Hawk GT's in the mid to late 90's, but they are twins and only make about 60-70 HP stock IIRC) I have ridden an 06 R1, and it wasn't my thing, personally. This thing, however, rung true immediately with me. I am hoping other lightweights will leave me feeling the same way, giving me more options.

I really do appreciate everyones input.

xD675x, any chance at all I could ride that thing this week? Is it already prepped?

Re: 2007 Cbr600rr

its just my preference.
if i was looking to by new, the honda would have to be way cheaper.
the gsxr600 for 7300 and whatever scott would do for a 675.
the money you save will get you trackdays, suspension and more tires.

the project was a 06 600rr but that is gone already.

the salvage one you are looking at is so not worth it. a few dollars more and you can have brand new off the showroom without the worries if its straight, the motor is good or whatever.

its your money, my words mean shit.

Ah, I "appropriated" the Freaky Tiki from a brand of booze. Rum, actually. He could go anywhere. smile

Well, anyway it's no zipper like the rest of the boys here, but if you need a spin to hold you, I know where the keys are.  Just don't let yourself buy stupid.  Hate to see you wad up because of a defect. Pilot errors always make for better stories anyway (yes, I'm taking back some of my original PM to you).  big_smile

I called on a used 2004 GSXR thou, Yosh pipe, 5,000 miles and asking $5900. Might be sold already to a guy from Chippewa according to the seller. I call again today to find out.

Anyone know a reliable/ACCURATE  site to look up HP/dry weight/ etc on bikes? I noticed published dry weight/hp numbers vary greatly from site to site.

Dearest Eprissel, Not sure where you went to high school, 1 up + 5 down=6 (ok, technically it's -4). You should check into Yamahas...they have 6 speeds! big_smile

Badfish...I should be around on Saturday...pm me if you need to take my humble but,  pretty blue missile for a refreshing spin through the vineyard.
Also, Skrawny hates Hondas.  Don't tell anyone...He owned one a few years ago...and it had Dunlops!  Shhhhhhhh!  I haven't ridden the 600RR yet, so...no comments.

MxMech,  Nooooo....Freaky Tiki CAN'T go anywhere!  And, nice avatar.  Is the greaseball in the back sitting hi up the Fahj?
