Club-sponsored ski trip

We'd like to plan a ski/snowboard/tube trip as a club on a Saturday in January or February.  If interested, please select which date works best for you.

We'd also appreciate input regarding where to go.

Re: Club-sponsored ski trip

Where to go depends on how far you want to go.  To get the best I think you have to go up to the U.P., otherwise Wild Mtn at Taylor Falls is ok and it has been years since I've been to Afton Alps!  Hope this helps!

Re: Club-sponsored ski trip

Skiing is a blast. The International Motorcycle show is the weekend of February 1,2,3. Keep that in mind for the people that would like to do both. I have been to Afton in the past few years. Still very fun and close by. Almost any of the dates work for me.

Re: Club-sponsored ski trip

No preference on weekend here. Been a while since I have skied so it should be just like a ride, lots of slipping and sliding maybe even a little falling down.

Th only places I have been are Afton and Trollhaugen. Any interest in going as far north as Lutzen?

I voted 'none' as I am not interested in this trip. Sorry, during the winter I don't really like going outside.

God, I love a good pole, I mean poll.  Maybe another poll is in order to decide WHERE to go.

So far we've got Afton, Wild Mtn, Trollhaugen, Lutsen or someplace in the U.P. like Blackjack or Big Powderhorn.  According to google maps, it's 4.5 hrs to Lutsen and 4 hrs to Ironwood, MI.

Would you want this to be an overnight event?  So many questions.

Re: Club-sponsored ski trip

Opinions vary, but back in the day I would have to say that we skiied almost everything in the U.P. until we discovered Lutzen. It was the closest thing to mountain skiing we could hope to find here in the midwest. Even Glen Plake gave it a 1 thumb up. The hotel is right at the bottom of the 3 "mountains" and the rooms were nice with a fully stocked bar not far down the hall. Lift tickets were kind of steep considering the elevation(no pun intended) but we got sweet deals on the room/lift combos. Canadian girls are easy.(and sometimes hairy)

Re: Club-sponsored ski trip

Last time I was at Lutsen was certainly an adventure (remember Rand?)  A bunch of us will be up at powder horn the second weekend in March (I gotta check dates for sure).  We have a place to stay but you guys would have to find different housing.  Auntie's Chalet is usually pretty full.

Re: Club-sponsored ski trip

If it falls on Jan. 12, 19, 26, Feb. 9 or 23 I'm there.
Pick a hill: Afton Alps, Wild Mountain, Trollhaugen, Coffee Mill, Spirit Mountain, Granite Peak, Lutsen or anything in the U.P. it doesn't matter to me.

Lutsen or U.P. would probably be better as overnighters.
Should be fun!

I've been skiing once every 17.5 years of my life so I'm no expert , but check out this link.  If I'm reading it correctly, the ticket is ONLY $52 if you buy it day of.  http://www.skigranitepeak.com/planAndBu … s#regular#  From what I've seen, this price isn't way, way out of line.

Lutsen is fun and not too bad on the wallet but the drive up there sucks if the weather is bad.  Afton is fun and reasonably priced, I went to Granite Peak last year and it was really fun, but then again 50 bucks for a lift ticket is kinda steep.

I'm not going to be the only one on skis, am I?  I'd hate to think you guys wouldn't be able to get through another season without dragging something.... wink

Snowmass is very nice!  I think it costs a little more the Afton...don't quite remember as I was there in 4th grade.
