One hundred K for an avatar? wtf? I mean, yeah, if everyone is on broadband, that's fine, but kind of rediculous. what the hell is it?

100k for an avatar is not uncommon anymore. It's actually small on some forums.
Then a person could have a decent person/anim gif without worrying about if it will upload. Plus then you could probably fit Brian's whole picture in instead of his mid-face.

The biggest forum I'm a member of has 90,000 members and they limit the avatar to 30k. Why? Because the default is 40 posts per page, and if everyone had a 100k avatar, that'd mean just that one page of the thread everyone would have to load 4 megs worth of just avatar images.

The reason I can't fit brian's whole face on is because avatar size is limited to 80x80 pixels, the full face one of him is only like 4k.

I'll leave the upload size limit up to Scott.
