Re: Track Day Info

As long as your ego can handle finishing no higher than second place, you are welcome to "compete".

Lots of ins and outs and what have yous to consider.  Perhaps you're not privy to all the new information, man.  I believe Smak would be a great resource for those who have questions.

Re: Track Day Info

I can see where the champ would get his reading material mixed up, With all the talk of what Buns to run, Stiction, Sag (how many terms can that work for).  No wonder you run so Deep into the corners before braking and tend to get out in the nicely trimed run off area!

Re: Track Day Info

The way i look at it, you aren't getting your money's worth if you spend all of your time on the tarmac.  You paid to use the entire facility, not just the paved areas.  Plus, you give the corner workers something to do.

Re: Track Day Info

Ok Ok So let start a list of tips and send it out from the experienced to the new track day riders for this year.  Take this advice for what it is worth, but don't say we didn't let you know.

1.  The ground is hard!

3.  If you do two track-days in a row and the sides of your tires are fairly worn, remember to decrease your corner speed and work on breaking.  Ask Rand, he'll tell you that's the way to go.

4. Back to 3 if an experienced racer asks you how things are going and says take it easy your tires are going off take the advice from the racer not your buddy who say's work on late braking moves when the tires are gone there gone!

Re: Track Day Info

In response to #5, the 6' rule only applies in novice class.  The "Kessler Pass", to which I believe you are referring, did not occur in novice class and was completely safe.  Now, on to rule #6.

6.  Be wary of who you give a camera to.  One member of our club, who shall remain nameless, likes to take pictures of heavy-set ethnic women in various states of undress and then deny taking said pictures.  Additionally, he attempts to blame this clubmember for taking the photos.  Go ahead, defend yourself without revealing your identity.

Re: Track Day Info

Is that the same member who has been known to take pictures of his "member" on a mean girl's camera?  Not that she didn't deserve it...mean girl.

I have no track experience. I barely have road experience. But I have been to a couple of races/track days at Brainerd...merely to spectate....so can I add one?

7. Don't use an off-road chain.

....I'm gonna get beat for that one.

Do I think I'm better than everyone? Only the ones I'm better than.

8. Which goes back to six for clarification (the rule be careful who you give your camera too!)  I can't believe this member will not fess up to the jungle yet!  The person in question didn't even do a track day that day and had nothing better to do than polute someone else's camera with pictures!  HMMM I wonder who?

Re: Track Day Info

Thank you, Rand, for admitting your guilt by your feeble attempt to defend yourself.  Now everyone knows your secret.

9.  If you happen to be riding in the last session of the day, make sure to fill your tank up and strap on a camel-back if you have one.  Depending upon mileage and tank capacity, you should expect to run for well over an hour.

Re: Track Day Info

10. Be sure to install "bark busters" on your handlebars so that 8xChamp doesn't karate chop your front brake like he did to Steve Rapp at R/A that one year.  Ouch!
