Tire Mileage

I double checked the skins yesterday and they are definitely ready to go.  I've had good luck with the Michelin Powers, but am wondering what everyone else runs.  I'd be interested to hear if you felt the grip was good on whatever brand and model you run and how many miles you get on a rear tire.

I thought I got around 4k on the Power, but am around 2,900 right now and not sure I have another 500 in it.

To recap; I'm wondering what tires you run, if you like their performance and how many miles you get on a rear.

Re: Tire Mileage

Running the Bridgestone BT-014 right now. I am pretty sure I am near 900-1000 miles.  I like the traction and I'll be keeping tabs on the mileage. My last PP rear only made it 1,800 miles (PSI may have been a big factor). Obviously I am looking for an improvement.

The stock BT-014 came off at about the 2800 mile mark. I am hoping that a closely monitored BT-014 will get over 3K. If not, I may try the PR2.

Traction: Obvioulsy the Power was great. Never any significant loss of traction there. Mileage was the issue. The BT-014 hasn't really acted up at all. I liked it enough to buy a second, to finish off the front with.

Same here. I think I've got Pirelli Diablo Strada. Though I had mine installed late last summer, and only rode on them enough to scuff them up...mostly.

Check back with me sometime this summer for mileage, when, in true female fashion, the men in my life tell me I need new tires.

I ran those most of the last year, if I recall correctly I got somewhere between 4000 and 5000 miles on them, but some of you guys ride a lot harder than I do, so don't expect them to last too long!

I've heard good things about the Strada's, too.  Might have to give those a look-see.

Uniroyal tiger paws this time of year... I have Bridgestone Battlax on the St1300, seem to get great traction as some of you  have witnessed. Mileage has varied on road conditions and loads ... ranged from 4000 to 8000 miles....  Powers on the  Triple, trying the PR2s on the rear this spring with the  regular on the front.

Re: Tire Mileage

i ran two sets of peepees on my bike.  got about 5k on the rear, i also ran it to the cord so realistically i probably got 4-4.5k out of the rears.

my dad and i both put the pirelli diablo corsa III's on this fall before i went to the dragon.  i don't know if it was just that i went from very well used tires to brand new tires, but the pirellis felt way better.  they have more feedback than the peepees in that, in a turn the peepee's would just lose traction with no warning.  with the pirellis, i could tell when the rear wanted to start stepping out on me.  i also like the profile of the pirellis better than the michs.  the michs have a steeper profile and allow you to flop right over into turns.  not necessarily a bad thing, but the shallower profile of the pirellis feels better to me.

the pirellis are pretty sticky and i am probably going to stick with them for a while for trackdays and streetriding.  i only have about 1000 miles on them so i cant give you a mileage report.  but they are still in tact so that's good.  i expect them to get the same kind of milage as the peepees.

cheerio!

Re: Tire Mileage

The Strada's did seem to make a difference to me (nicer ride, more gription (or is that sticktion?), etc.) but then, when I first got the bike it had those Battle-Ax ones; they were pre-driven and they were square. I did my best to round them out, but once they (the old tires) settled in with a "Harley" profile, they didn't seem to want to round out much. I've been told the Strada is a good mix of street and track...thicker tread so they last longer, a little less stick than a racing tire. We'll see. 'Cause I'm hot shit. Or...have...

Mu buddy ran a set of Pilot Roads on a ZX-12.  He liked them and they seemed to hold up nice for him on that big Bertha of a motor.  These may go on sale also since they are on there way out, if I see something I will post it up.

Re: Tire Mileage

Think I'm going to give the Stradas a try.  Read some good reviews by both Joe Consumer and writer types.  Found a few claiming to only get 3500k or so on the rear, but my guess is there was lots of slabbing it/burn outs/psi of 10 involved in these cases.  Check out the links below if you wish.

On a completely separate note, does anyone have a handful of Pirelli stickers laying around?  I don't think I'll be able to weather the glares by Bib if I'm not running Mitchelins(so u pronounce it correctly).

I have no clue.  Once we were bought out by the Canadian's I thought some idoit painted the box cars wrong when I seen it spelled Canadien.  I would just slur or mubble everything and you should be ok!

They came stock on my R6.  I like em. But might try something different.

Re: Tire Mileage

I was really tempted to try out the road 2's today when I was tire shopping, but couldn't bring myself to spend the $$$ on them. I'll wait for one of you guys to try them out and give a report before dropping cash like that.

Instead I'm going to give the Diablo Rosso's a try. I had good luck with the original Diablos, and these look even better.

did you get another bt-14 for the back end? where did you buy it?

I am looking for a 190/50 for my 1000.

Well, I just changed out my BT-014's last night/tonight. The front lasted 5,300 miles with two BT-014 rears splitting that mileage. (roughly 2,650 each).  As a result, I put the dual compound BT-021 sport touring tire on the rear, and another BT-014 on the front. The 021 has the softer 014 rubber on the sides, with the touring compound up the middle. It was  $123.99 and I got it from Dennis Kirk.

The 014 front was toast on the sides, but had life left in the center. The 014 rear was toast in the middle with life left on the sides. The previous 014 rear was the same. I have always been rough on rear tires. I am hoping that the 021/014 combo finishes up together with the whole tire used up. Throwing out a flat spotted rear sucks.

7,100 miles on the bike right now.  I plan to keep this info updated with mileage.

I also planned to get the Pilot Road 2 rear with a Power front, but the 021/014 combo was quite a bit cheaper. I know of some pretty aggressive riders that are getting knee AND 7,000 miles out of a Pilot Road 2 rear.  Impressive tire! I hope to get similar performance out of the Bridgestone.

If you are rough on rear tires, try either one of these on the rear. I think you'll be impressed. If you want my actual feedback about the 021, give me a few days to scrub it in.

Mileageguy is running the Road 2 rear on his triple and the 021 on the back of the ST1300. I have seen him push both VERY hard with great results. I rode behind a gentleman last year on K12000S running the 021 rear and he was a couple of degrees away from dragging the drive casing on the beemer. The guy was real quick.

How long did the stockers on your 1K last? Are they done now or are you just getting ready? Did you like them?

Re: Tire Mileage

well......

I just picked up the 05 1000 with 1977 miles on it, and the bt-014e on the rear is pretty much done after another 325 miles. I think the guy may have done a burn out or 2.

So I just ordered a replacement oem fitment bt-014 from DK for 139 shipped, I had to do the beat it by a buck to get that price.

The tire will be here Friday, and I hope to put it on this weekend if Rand is available to swap a rear.

I too will keep this updated with feedback on the tire.

The front still looks really good, so I guess we'll see what happens!

If both were were toast, I probably would just have ordered a set of powers, I really like Michelin tires!

I just rolled 2k on the stradas and they seem to be holding up real well although I don't ride as hard as most of you but anyway also wanted to comment that they have extreamly good wet traction IMO.:)

3666 for me and they're getting close i think.  not as good as the pp's, but pretty good for the money and considering the mileage.

Re: Tire Mileage

Ding, dong the Strada's are dead.  4,975 miles on them.  Probably a 4,900 mile tire on my 750.

I ran very high pressure in them, especially the rear.  Once the weather warmed up, I had 41 psi in the rear.  They are a decent tire.  Not as sticky, again, as the Powers I've been running, but both the front and rear slide very predictably.  I'd also read that they were supposed to be great in the rain, but Powers have them beat here too, IMO.

For the money, I'll definitely run them again......after I burn up my $20 set of Powers.
