As for avatars, you upload that off your own computer and the forum will host it, not photobucket

i tried uploading an avitar from my desk top and it said file too big or something. it was just a target jpg from google ?   any advice ?

as far as i know your avitar has to be 100x100 or smaller or it won't work

That is correct, just resize it using any image program to be at most 100x100 and it'll take.
